Dr. Ilic specializes in food safety through The College of Education and Human Ecology Department of Human Sciences. Her research interests include microbial safety of foods with a special focus on fresh fruits and vegetables. Her studies investigate transmission and dissemination routes as well as interventions to prevent and reduce risks of contamination of fresh produce and other foods with human pathogens within the food systems approach. Sonja uses formal knowledge translation to move research knowledge into practice. Her goal is to provide novel food safety interventions to control and eliminate foodborne pathogens and innovative approaches of knowledge transfer targeting food producers, handlers and consumer.
