Biography: 

Amete Mihret is a researcher at the Ethiopian Public Health Institute (EPHI), Clinical Bacteriology and Mycology Research Case team. She has got her Bachelors of Science degree in medical laboratory technology from Hawassa University in 2010, and Master’s degree from the department of diagnostic and public health microbiology at Addis Ababa University in 2014. Since 2014, she has been working in the National Clinical Bacteriology and Mycology reference laboratory as a microbiologist, laboratory supervisor and lead. During her leadership, the laboratory achieved ISO 15189 accreditation of full scope manual bacterial culture identification and antibiotic susceptibility tests. The laboratory also graduated as a five-star laboratory by the American Society for Microbiology. Amete has done more than 16 research projects in collaboration with her colleagues including studies on urinary tract infection among pregnant women, blood stream infections, urban healthcare facility sewage water contaminated by gram negative bacteria, human Salmonellosis diagnosis and treatment, characterization of invasive pneumonia isolates, surgical site infections, antimicrobial resistance surveillance in Ethiopia, and bacterial vaginosis.
