Opportunities for Students

CFI regularly engages undergraduate and graduate students in its work, both through funded and unfunded opportunities. When available, funded opportunities will be posted here. Students can also contact us directly to inquire about unfunded opportunities to work with us. For example, we have worked with undergraduate students through the FoodS.U.R.E. program and graduate students on culminating projects.

Examples of current and past student involvement activities include:

  • Conducting literature reviews on the long-term health outcomes associated with foodborne illness;

  • Writing a white paper and manuscripts reflecting discussions at an invitation-only meeting hosted in Washington, DC, to facilitate conversations among food safety experts on the impact of culture-independent diagnostic tests on foodborne disease surveillance;

  • Participating in Research projects abroad, including TARTARE in Ethiopia and PESAR in Guatemala.

As part of select positions/internships, CFI has supported student travel to:

  • Washington, DC to meet with various decision makers about the work completed in the program;

  • The International Association of Food Protection annual meeting to present research results.
