We invite and encourage you to join the Center for Foodborne Illness Research and Prevention as we work to advance a stronger, more science-based food safety system that prevents foodborne illness and protects public health. Membership in CFI will be open to all OSU faculty, research scientists, post-docs and graduate students whose research is focused on food safety as well as external food safety professionals who wish to be engaged in CFI.

CFI offers the following membership types:

  • Faculty membership will be based on faculty interest and alignment with CFI’s missions and goals. It is expected that faculty members will be 1) actively engaged in conducting or proposing research associated with CFI’s missions and goals; 2) interested in participating in CFI outreach and advocacy activities; 3) committed to collaborating across disciplines and focus areas within CFI; and 4) supportive of engaging students in CFI activities. Prospective members may submit a C.V. and letter of interest to The Steering Committee will review and approve applications.
  • Students/Post-docs/Staff interested in joining CFI must be “sponsored” by a faculty member. The sponsoring faculty member must submit a letter of reference to the Steering Committee justifying membership for the student or staff. No letter of reference is required for students and staff under the direct supervision of a faculty member.
  • External affiliations may be offered to food safety professionals outside of Ohio State who have demonstrated alignment with the goals and objectives of CFI and are interested in collaborative efforts that promote food safety research and the prevention of foodborne disease. External members (i.e. affiliates) must be nominated by a Steering Committee Member and approved by a majority vote of the Steering Committee.

Membership will be re-evaluated by the Steering Committee every five years and renewed based on center citizenship.

Applications are accepted on a rolling basis. Membership within CFI is voluntary. If you are leaving The Ohio State University, retiring, or want to opt out of membership, please contact us at
